Bus coupler PROFINET je určen k připojení sběrnice PROFINET k periferním modulům TB20. Lze připojit až 63 modulů zapojených do série s couplerem. Bus coupler podporuje výměnu modulů za provozu (hot-swap).
Kromě toho rozpozná všechny připojené periferní moduly a přiřadí každému modulu odpovídající vstupy/výstupy z tabulky obrazů procesů. Funkční konfigurace TB20 vždy vyžaduje bus coupler a alespoň jeden periferní modul.
